Project Details

Detailed Biophysical Assessment
Greater Nanaimo Water District Lands
Project Details
Completion of a detailed Biophysical Assessment of approximately 248 acres (100 hectares) of land identified as the Greater Nanaimo Water District Lands (GNWD) within the City of Nanaimo. The assessment was used to help the City of Nanaimo’s Parks department determine future land-use opportunities for the property.

- Summer and winter assessment and site characterization surveys.
- Vegetation community mapping and rare plant surveys
- Watercourse and wetland mapping and riparian setback determinations.
- Wildlife habitat surveys for large and small mammals, amphibian, reptiles, and owls.

Project Details
Aquaparian was retained by the marine contractor to provide third party environmental monitoring during the marine trenching and blasting for a marine outfall installation as part of the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Greater Pollution Control Centre (GNPCC) secondary treatment replacement project.
Services Provided
- Development of a detailed Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for the installation of 2.0 km long 1.3m diameter sanitary marine outfall within the intertidal and subtidal environment.
- Aquaparian provided environmental monitoring services for McNally during the marine trenching, drilling & blasting and outfall burial works of the sanitary marine outfall. Environmental services included underwater acoustic monitoring of noise and overpressure to fish and marine mammals during underwater blasting, water quality testing and marine mammal exclusion monitoring
Seaspan Loading Terminal
Duke Point, Nanaimo BC
Project Details
Environmental Construction monitoring for Ruskin Construction during the construction of a new marine loading terminal at the Nanaimo Port Authority Duke Point Terminal, Nanaimo BC.
Services Provided
- Development of a project specific Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for construction of the facility.
- Daily/weekly environmental monitoring during dredging of a new loading basin, installation of marine support piles, false works and concrete pouring, including water quality monitoring, underwater acoustic monitoring for noise and overpressure impacts to fish and marine mammals.
- Marine dive services for the removal of sessile marine organisms along rock lined breakwater as part of construction dredging for inner loading basin.
Craigflower Bridge ReConstruction

Environmental construction monitoring during the replacement of the Craigflower Bridge over the Gorge Waterway in Victoria BC
Services Provided
- Completion of a Project-Specific Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) to address potential impacts during the reconstruction of the Craigflower Bridge within the Gorge waterway. Protection plans applied during installation of coffer dams, pile driving, concrete poring and sediment control.
- On-site construction monitoring for over 1 year including fish salvage and water quality monitoring.
Ahousaht Sanitary Treatment & Marine

Environmental services as part of a new sanitary treatment system and marine outfall for the community of Ahousaht, Flores Island, BC.

- Completion of a Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment for the Installation of 1.2 km Marine Outfall.

BLK 1447 & Lot 246 Biophysical Assessment
Port Alberni BC
Project Details
Biophysical Assessment of 50 hectare (120 acre) parcel of land for future residential development opportunities within the upper bluffs of Cherry Creek, Port Alberni.
Services Provided
The assessment included an environmental constraint and opportunities study and the characterization of the vegetation community, rare plant survey, and wildlife use assessment including mammals, birds and amphibian use, of any sensitive ecosystems that could influence decisions affecting future land development of the property.
BC Hydro Substation Construction & Upgrades

Aquaparian has provided environmental protection plans and monitoring services on more than 20 BC Hydro Substation Projects across Vancouver Island, and throughout the interior of British Columbia and up to the board with Alaska.
Services Provided
- Completion of project specific Environmental Protection Plans (EPP’s) and construction monitoring. Plans included emergency fuel handling and spill management, hazardous waste management, suspect soil handling, water quality protection, wildlife interaction, concrete management, PCB oils removal plans etc.
- Environmental construction monitoring for substation projects across the province of BC with project ranging between 3 months to 2.5 years.
Cox Bay Campground

Project Details
Biophysical Assessment of 65 hectares (160 acre) of land historically operated as the Pacific Rim Campground on Cox Bay, Tofino BC. Proposed for a new mixed residential and recreation development.
Services Provided
The assessment included an environmental constraints and opportunities study including the characterization of the vegetation community, inventory of Old Growth trees, rare plant survey, mapping of creeks and wetlands, riparian setback delineation, and fish and wildlife habitat characterization.
Bitter Creek Highway Bridge

Project Details
Completion of environmental protection plans and environmental monitoring services during demolition of old in-water bridge abutments and decking and re-construction of a new full spanning bridge across Bitter Creek in Stewart BC.
Services Provided
- Development of a project specific environment protection plan and construction monitoring services.
- Project included isolation of in-water works site and flow diversion measures using aqua dams and dam bags to allow for construction of concrete bridge abutments.
- Fish isolation / salvage works, water quality monitoring, and site restoration recommendations.
